Elliott Wilcox

Problems

Wilcox has always been fascinated by constructed indoor space, specifically space that is used for the purpose of leisure. Referring to Jean Baudrillard’s theories, he is intrigued by internal space constructed out of models and simulacra which have no reference or ground in any reality except their own. In these photographs, empty climbing walls, absent of the expected human activity, become estranged from their purpose.

Elliott Wilcox graduated from the University of Wales, Newport Photographic Art program in 2008. Wilcox received the Judges Award at the Nikon Discovery Awards and a New York Photo Award in 2009, as well as a Lucie Award for the Discovery of the Year at the International Photography Awards. Wilcox has exhibited widely and has a forthcoming solo show at the DNJ Gallery, Los Angeles.
