The shrinking horizons of childhood
Mike O’Toole’s interest lies in using photography to make comment about the shrinking horizons of childhood. In this series children are the subjects of his voyeuristic observations or willing participants in some kind of performance. Part social commentary, part fiction, part autobiography, O’Toole’s work plays with the underlying tension and the culture of fear that surrounds childhood.
Mike O’Toole has shown his work at The Art directors club of New york and in exhibitions in London and Paris. He lectures part time on the BA(Hons) in photography at IADT and conducts workshops for photographers. His work has been commissioned by Conde Nast Traveller, The Washington post and has won several international awards including at the Aop, Archive, Communication Arts and the International photographers awards.
