The series documents places where photographers have been harassed, constrained and even arrested, while taking pictures by official or unofficial authorities. The banality and commonality of the places show that anyone carrying a camera can be seen as a potential threat, a terrorist or paedophile. In the age of terror the viewer should be the one to judge what is threatened: our security or civil liberties?


Athens-born Nikos Efstratiou has been living between the U.K and Germany the last six years. Among others he has worked as a picture editor and photographer assistant, but his increasing interest in the theory of photography and visual culture will lead him to pursue a PhD on the subject after the completion of his MA course.
