Calia presents photographs of prayer scenes taken in various worship places in London. Each photograph was exposed for the duration of the entire ceremony. By introducing the camera into an environment from which it is traditionally proscribed, Calia addresses the long-standing and often problematic relationship between religion and image from a contemporary outlook.
Philippe Calia is a French photographer. His work has been exhibited in art galleries in India and France. Having earned an MA in Political Science, he has extensively studied the dynamics between religion and public space, specifically in the Indian context. He currently lives in London.
